MP3 320 kbps – recommended for music
The highest bitrate the MP3 format allows. It preserves everything YouTube's source stream contains and plays in any MP3 player. Expect roughly 2.4 MB per minute, so a four-minute song is about 10 MB.

On YouTube, copy the address from the browser bar, or tap Share and then Copy link in the app. Regular videos, Shorts, YouTube Music tracks and youtu.be short links all work.
Paste the link into the box at the top of this page. Within about two seconds you will see the video title, its length and the audio formats on offer, each with an estimated file size.
Choose 320 kbps for music, or 128 kbps when a smaller file matters more than the last bit of fidelity, as with talks and podcasts. Conversion usually takes 5–15 seconds and you can watch the progress bar.
Your browser downloads the file named after the video, complete with title, artist and cover art. Add it to your music app, sync it to your phone or copy it to a USB stick for the car.
The MP3 is encoded at a constant 320 kbps from YouTube's best source stream, never upsampled from a low-quality copy. Choose 128 kbps when you prefer a file less than half the size.
Title, artist and a square cover image are written into each MP3, so tracks display correctly in Apple Music, VLC, car stereos and any other player that reads ID3 tags.
Analyzing a link takes about two seconds and a typical song converts in 5 to 15 seconds. A progress bar shows the state of the conversion instead of leaving you guessing.
Use it in Safari on iPhone, Chrome on Android or any desktop browser. Nothing to install, and on Android you can add Y-Download to your home screen and share videos to it straight from YouTube.
Paste a public playlist to see up to 500 videos and convert each one to MP3 with a click. YouTube Music links behave exactly like normal video links.
No account, no daily cap and no premium tier. Converted files are deleted after 30 minutes, and pasted links are not kept beyond short-lived operational logs.
Y-Download converts YouTube to MP3 in a browser tab. Paste the link of a music video, a live session, a podcast episode or a YouTube Music track, and about two seconds later you will see its title, its duration and the audio options available for it. Choose MP3 at 320 kbps or 128 kbps, wait a few seconds while the file is prepared, and your browser saves a standard MP3 that plays on any phone, laptop, car stereo or portable player. There is no account, nothing to install and no limit on how many tracks you convert.
The audio comes from the best stream YouTube provides for that video, usually 128–160 kbps AAC or Opus. Y-Download decodes it with ffmpeg and encodes a constant-bitrate MP3, then writes ID3 tags with the track title and the channel as artist and embeds a square cover cropped from the video thumbnail. The song therefore shows up with the right name and artwork in Apple Music, Windows Media Player, VLC, your car's USB player and any other app that reads MP3 metadata, instead of appearing as an anonymous file with a cryptic name.
MP3 remains the safest choice when you need audio that works everywhere. Practically every phone, computer, car stereo and smart speaker plays it, and at 320 kbps a three-minute song is about 7 MB, so an entire playlist fits comfortably on a phone. If you would rather have the original stream untouched, the M4A option saves the AAC audio exactly as YouTube stores it; if you plan to edit the audio, WAV and FLAC are one click away in the same list. Whatever you choose, the file is deleted from our servers 30 minutes after it is created.
The highest bitrate the MP3 format allows. It preserves everything YouTube's source stream contains and plays in any MP3 player. Expect roughly 2.4 MB per minute, so a four-minute song is about 10 MB.
A good fit for podcasts, lectures, interviews and audiobooks, where speech matters more than fine detail. Files are about 1 MB per minute, which keeps long recordings easy to store and share.
If you would rather skip conversion entirely, the M4A option saves YouTube's AAC stream exactly as it is. It is the fastest download and the smallest file, and it plays natively on iPhone, Mac and Android.
Uncompressed WAV or lossless FLAC makes sense when the audio goes into a video editor, a DAW or DJ software. They cannot add detail the YouTube source lacks, but they spare you a second lossy encode while you work.
Yes. Converting YouTube to MP3 is free, with no limit on the number of files, no account and no watermark or audio stamp. Y-Download has worked this way since 2021.
It is more faithful to the source. YouTube stores audio at roughly 128–160 kbps AAC or Opus, and re-encoding to MP3 always loses a little detail. At 320 kbps that loss is negligible; at 128 kbps it becomes audible on good headphones, especially in cymbals and reverb tails. Pick 320 kbps for music and 128 kbps when file size matters more, such as for speech.
Because no converter can add information that is missing from the source. YouTube compresses the audio before we ever see it, and MP3 encoding preserves that quality rather than improving it. If a track sounds thin on YouTube, it will sound the same as an MP3. For the cleanest possible copy, download the original M4A instead.
Yes. On iPhone, open the page in Safari, paste the link and tap Download; the MP3 lands in the Files app, where you can play it or move it into a music app. On Android, Chrome saves it to your Downloads folder, and you can install Y-Download as an app so that Share → Y-Download from YouTube fills in the link for you.
Yes. Paste the playlist link and Y-Download lists up to 500 videos with a download button next to each one. YouTube Music tracks and albums use the same links as regular YouTube, so they convert the same way, complete with title and artwork.
Roughly 2.4 MB per minute at 320 kbps and 1 MB per minute at 128 kbps. A four-minute song is about 10 MB or 4 MB, and a one-hour podcast is about 145 MB or 58 MB. The size estimate shown before you download is calculated from the video's duration.
Private, members-only and age-restricted videos cannot be accessed, live streams can only be converted after they have ended, and videos longer than four hours are not supported. If a public video fails, try again in a minute; occasional errors happen when YouTube changes how it serves audio.
You may download and convert audio you own, audio published under a permissive license such as Creative Commons, or audio whose creator has given you permission. Converting copyrighted music without permission breaks YouTube's terms and may break copyright law where you live. Y-Download is a tool; how you use it is your responsibility.
