Copyright Complaints (DMCA)

How to send a copyright complaint to Y-Download, what a complete notice must include, and why most complaints belong with YouTube's own copyright process.

Updated Sep 21, 2026

Y-Download respects the rights of creators and rights holders. This page explains how the service handles content, when a complaint to us makes sense, and exactly what to send so we can act on it quickly.

How Y-Download handles content

Understanding what Y-Download does, and does not do, helps you send a complaint to the right place:

  • Nothing is uploaded to Y-Download. There is no upload feature and no user-submitted content. The service only processes links to videos that are already publicly available on YouTube.
  • Files are created on demand and deleted quickly. When a visitor pastes a link, the file is prepared for that visitor and deleted automatically within 30 minutes.
  • There is no library or search. Y-Download does not store, index, or list videos. You cannot browse or search for content on the site.

Because the content itself lives on YouTube, removing it from YouTube removes it from everything Y-Download can do. If your work has been uploaded to YouTube without permission, the most effective step is to use YouTube's own copyright tools, which let rights holders request removal of infringing videos directly from YouTube. Once a video is removed there, it can no longer be processed by Y-Download or any other tool.

When to contact Y-Download

Contact us if you are a rights holder, or authorized to act for one, and you want a specific YouTube video or URL to be blocked from processing on Y-Download even though it remains available on YouTube. We can block individual videos and URLs on request.

How to send a complaint

Email [email protected] with the subject line Copyright complaint. To be complete and actionable, your notice must include:

  1. Identification of the copyrighted work you believe has been infringed. If your complaint covers several works, a representative list is fine.
  2. Identification of the material you want blocked: the YouTube URL (or URLs) that were processed, or the URL on Y-Download where you saw it. Video IDs are the most useful form.
  3. Your contact details: name, postal address, telephone number, and email address, so we can reach you.
  4. A good-faith statement that you believe the use of the material is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  5. A statement of accuracy that the information in the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the owner's behalf.
  6. Your physical or electronic signature. Typing your full name at the end of the email is sufficient.

Incomplete notices slow things down, because we need to write back for the missing items before we can act.

What happens next

We review every complete notice. Where the notice is valid, we block the identified videos or URLs from being processed on Y-Download and confirm this to you by email. Because files are deleted automatically within 30 minutes, there is normally nothing further to remove.

Please be accurate. Knowingly sending a false or misleading complaint can make you liable for the resulting damages and costs.

Counter-notices

Y-Download does not host user uploads, so the usual counter-notice process rarely applies. However, if you are the uploader or rights holder of a video that has been blocked on Y-Download because of a complaint, and you believe the block was a mistake or a misidentification, you can send a counter-notice to [email protected] with the subject line Copyright counter-notice. Include:

  • identification of the blocked video or URL,
  • a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief the material was blocked as a result of mistake or misidentification,
  • your name, address, telephone number, and email address,
  • your physical or electronic signature.

We will review the counter-notice and, where appropriate, lift the block. We may forward your counter-notice to the person who sent the original complaint.

Repeat infringers

Videos and URLs that are the subject of valid complaints may be blocked permanently, and we may block traffic that is repeatedly used to infringe. Because Y-Download has no accounts, blocking works at the level of URLs, videos, and abusive traffic rather than user accounts.

Not affiliated with YouTube

Y-Download is not affiliated with YouTube or Google and cannot remove videos from YouTube. Requests to remove a video from YouTube itself must go through YouTube's copyright process.
