Terms of Service
The rules for using Y-Download: a free service, what you may download, your responsibilities, our limits, and how the service is provided without warranty.
Updated Sep 21, 2026
These terms govern your use of Y-Download at https://www.y-download.com, including its website and bookmarklet. By using the service you agree to them. They are written in plain language on purpose, and the headings should help you find what you need.
1. What Y-Download does
Y-Download lets you save publicly available YouTube videos as MP4 files, convert them to audio formats such as MP3, M4A, OPUS, WAV, and FLAC, and download thumbnails and subtitles. When you paste a link, our servers fetch the video from YouTube, prepare the file you chose, and offer it to your browser as a download. Prepared files are stored temporarily and deleted automatically after 30 minutes.
Y-Download does not host a library of videos, does not let you upload content, and does not provide search. It only processes the public YouTube links you give it, on demand.
2. Free of charge
Y-Download is free. There is no paid tier, no subscription, and no account. We may change or discontinue any part of the service at any time.
3. What you may download
You may use Y-Download only to download content that:
- you own or created yourself,
- is licensed in a way that permits downloading (for example, Creative Commons), or
- you have the rights holder's permission to download.
You are responsible for making sure you have the right to download and use the content, and for what you do with the files afterward. You are also responsible for complying with YouTube's Terms of Service and with the laws that apply to you. Y-Download is a tool; how you use it is up to you.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Y-Download:
- to infringe copyright or any other right of a third party,
- to harass, stalk, or harm anyone,
- to download content for redistribution, resale, or re-upload without permission,
- to scrape, crawl, or bulk-process the service at scale without our written permission,
- to bypass, probe, or overload rate limits, or to run automated traffic that degrades the service for others,
- to interfere with the service's security or operation.
5. Rate limits and blocking
To keep the service available to everyone, we apply rate limits per IP address. We may block, throttle, or otherwise restrict traffic that we believe is abusive, automated, or harmful, without notice. We may also block specific URLs or videos, for example following a copyright complaint.
6. Files are temporary
Files you generate are deleted automatically 30 minutes after they are ready, or sooner. Download them promptly and keep your own copy. We do not keep backups and cannot recover an expired file; you can simply run the download again.
7. No warranty
Y-Download is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. In particular:
- the service may be unavailable, slow, or interrupted at any time,
- features may change or be removed,
- some videos cannot be downloaded (for example, private, age-restricted, or region-locked videos and live streams that are still running),
- YouTube may change its systems in ways that break the service temporarily or permanently.
We do not guarantee that the service will meet your needs or that any download will succeed.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Y-Download and the people who run it are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, revenue, or profits, arising from your use of or inability to use the service, even if we were advised of the possibility of such damages. To the extent our liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us to use the service, which is zero.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
9. Not affiliated with YouTube or Google
Y-Download is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or otherwise connected to YouTube or Google. YouTube is a trademark of Google LLC. Your use of YouTube remains subject to YouTube's own terms.
10. Copyright complaints
If you believe Y-Download has been used to infringe your copyright, follow the process on our Copyright Complaints page.
11. Termination
We may suspend or end your access to the service at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you have breached these terms or if we need to protect the service or other users. You may stop using the service at any time; since there is no account, there is nothing to cancel.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when they were last changed. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the new terms.
