Comment télécharger les sous-titres d'une vidéo YouTube

  1. 1

    Copy the video link

Open the video on YouTube and copy its address, or use Share → Copy link in the app. Regular videos, Shorts and youtu.be links all work.

  2. 2

Paste it and look through the subtitle list

Paste the link into the box above. Once the video is analyzed, the subtitle list shows every available track, with manual subtitles and auto-generated captions clearly marked and each language named.

  3. 3

    Choose a language and download

Click the language you need. The .srt file is prepared with correct timing – overlapping auto-caption cues are merged – and your browser saves it named after the video. Repeat for other languages if you need them.

  4. 4

    Use the file

Put the .srt next to the video with the same filename and VLC or any media player picks it up automatically. Or import it into your video editor, or open it in a text editor to read the transcript.

Ce qui rend ce téléchargeur de sous-titres utile

  • Manual and auto-generated captions

Download the creator's own subtitles when they exist, or YouTube's automatic captions when they do not. Both are clearly labeled so you know what you are getting.

  • Every language YouTube offers

Auto-translated caption tracks are included, so you can download the English transcript of a Spanish video or the Japanese subtitles for an English lecture.

  • Cleaned-up timing

Auto captions on YouTube arrive as overlapping cues that repeat every line. Y-Download merges them into clean, non-overlapping SRT entries while keeping the original timestamps.

  • Pairs with your MP4 download

Download the video as MP4 and its subtitles as SRT from the same page. Both are saved under the video title, so VLC and most players pick up the captions automatically.

  • Any device, no install

Runs in the browser on iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac and Linux. Nothing to install, no account, no limit on how many files you download.

  • Free and private

No sign-up and no tracking of the links you paste. Subtitle files are prepared on the fly and removed from our servers after 30 minutes.

Télécharger les sous-titres YouTube en SRT, nettoyés et prêts à l'emploi

This YouTube subtitle downloader pulls the captions from a video and hands them to you as a standard .srt file. Paste a video link into Y-Download and every subtitle track YouTube has for it is listed: subtitles the creator uploaded, auto-generated captions produced by YouTube's speech recognition, and the automatic translations of those captions, which often cover dozens of languages. Pick a language, click Download and the file is saved under the video's title.

SRT is the simplest subtitle format there is – numbered cues, a start and end time, the text – and that is why it works almost everywhere. Load it in VLC to watch a downloaded MP4 with subtitles, import it into Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut to add captions to an edit, or open it in Notepad, Word or Google Docs to read it as a transcript. Y-Download keeps YouTube's original timing, and for auto-generated captions it cleans up the overlapping cues they are made of, so each line appears once with a proper start and end time.

People download subtitles to get a transcript of a lecture or interview, to translate a video, to make content accessible, to study a language with the script in hand, or to quote a talk accurately. Two honest caveats: auto-generated captions can misrecognize names, jargon and accents, so proofread anything you publish; and not every video has subtitles – auto captions are missing on some videos, such as music or unsupported languages, and very new uploads may not have them yet. The tool is free, needs no account, and works in any browser on iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac and Linux.

SRT, sous-titres manuels et automatiques

The SRT format

SubRip Text is a plain-text file: each cue has a number, a start and end time in hours:minutes:seconds, milliseconds and one or two lines of text. It is supported by VLC, Plex, Kodi, YouTube itself, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut, and by every subtitle editor. Because it is plain text, you can also open it in Notepad, Word or Google Docs.

Manual subtitles

Subtitles the creator or their translators uploaded. They are usually accurate, correctly punctuated and properly split into readable lines, and they may exist in several languages. When a video has them, download these first.

Auto-generated captions

Created by YouTube's speech recognition in the video's spoken language and auto-translated into many others. They are a fast way to get a transcript but can contain errors with names, technical terms, accents and overlapping speakers, and punctuation is sparse. Proofread before publishing.

FAQ du téléchargeur de sous-titres

How do I download subtitles from a YouTube video?

Paste the video link into Y-Download, pick a language from the subtitle list and click Download. You get a standard .srt file with the original timing, saved under the video's title. No account or software is needed.

Can I download YouTube auto-generated captions as SRT?

Yes. Auto-generated captions are listed alongside manual subtitles and download as .srt the same way. Y-Download merges the overlapping cues YouTube uses for auto captions, so each line appears once with a proper start and end time.

How do I get a transcript of a YouTube video?

Download the subtitles as SRT and open the file in Notepad, Word or Google Docs – the text is readable as it is. If you need plain paragraphs without timestamps, delete the cue numbers and time lines in a text editor, or run the file through a free SRT-to-text converter.

Why are there no subtitles for this video?

Either the creator did not upload any and YouTube did not generate auto captions – common with music videos, very new uploads and languages YouTube's speech recognition does not support – or the video is private, members-only or age-restricted, which Y-Download cannot access. If YouTube shows a CC button on the video, the captions should appear here.

Can I download subtitles in a language the video was not recorded in?

Often, yes. YouTube auto-translates auto-generated captions into many languages, and Y-Download lists those tracks too. Machine translation quality varies; for anything public, have a native speaker check it.

How do I use the SRT file with a downloaded video?

Save the video as MP4 from the same page, put both files in the same folder with matching names (video.mp4 and video.srt) and open the video in VLC or another player – the subtitles load automatically. In Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut, import the SRT as a caption track.

Does the YouTube subtitle downloader work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. Open the page in Safari or Chrome, paste the link and tap the language you want. On iPhone the .srt file is saved to the Files app; on Android it goes to your Downloads folder, and you can install Y-Download as an app and share videos straight to it.

Is it legal to download YouTube subtitles?

Subtitles are part of the video and covered by the same copyright. You may download them for videos you own, for videos released under a permissive license such as Creative Commons, or when the creator has given you permission. Downloading and redistributing other people's captions or translations without permission may violate YouTube's terms and copyright law. What you do with a downloaded transcript is your responsibility.
